Q: What sizes can it produce?

A: The blowing system is specifically designed for large-format containers. While centered on the standard 5-gallon (18.9L) bottle, most machines can be adjusted to produce 3-gallon, 4-gallon or sometimes up to 6-gallon containers, provided you have the correct molds and preforms.

Q: What is the realistic output speed?

A: Output depends on the number of cavities and operator speed.

1-Cavity Machine: Typically 90 – 120 bottles per hour (BPH).
2-Cavity Machine: Typically 180 – 250 bottles per hour (BPH).

Q: Do I need a separate heating oven?

A: No. Semi-automatic machines consist of two units that work together: a separate infrared preform heater and the main blowing unit. They are usually sold together as one “machine set.”

Q: How many operators are needed?

A: Usually one skilled operator can handle both loading the heater and running the blowing unit for a 1-cavity machine. For a faster 2-cavity machine, sometimes two operators are used to maximize speed (one just heating, one just blowing), but one can still manage it at a slightly slower pace.

Q: How difficult is mold changing?

A: 5-gallon molds are very heavy steel blocks. You absolutely need a hoist, crane, or forklift to change them. A mold change usually takes 45 minutes to over an hour.
